The Curious Case Of Shreyas Iyer’s Omission From Mumbai’s Squad Against Assam

Team India had named their squad for the final three test matches against England; however, team India’s middle-order batsman, Shreyas Iyer, was excluded from team India’s squad for the final three test matches against England.

On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer’s domestic team, Mumbai, announced a 16-member squad for their clash against Assam in the Ranji Trophy. Most of the players in the squad remain the same, including the likes of Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane. Shardul Thakur and Shivam Dube are already part of the team, but Shreyas Iyer was a notable miss in the Mumbai squad for their upcoming clash against Assam.

Shreyas had a poor run for Team India in the longest format of the game, averaging just 19 in the last 10 innings without even scoring a single half century over the previous 10 innings.

As per the latest statement from BCCI, Shreyas Iyer should have made himself available for the clash against Assam, as BCCI has made it compulsory for players to play in the domestic tournament who are not part of India’s international squad.

On the other hand, apart from Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan has also not made himself available for the ongoing Ranji Trophy season. It will be interesting that Ishan gets a place in the playing 11 of Jharkhand as they are set to face Rajasthan in their next Ranji Trophy game.
