The Assurance That Rescued Hardik Pandya’s BCCI Contract

The board of Cricket Control in India has announced the new central contracts for players, starting from October 1, 2023, to September 30, 2024.

As many as thirty players were handed their central contract for the upcoming season. However, a couple of notable misses on the contract list were the exclusions of Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer.

Both of the players were part of India’s squad in all three formats for quite some time now.

But there rose another controversy when India’s star all-rounder Hardik Pandaya was handed a Grade A contract in spite of being out of action in international as well as domestic cricket.

As per the reports, Hardik was given the contract after the all-rounder gave assurance of his participation in Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 and Vijay Hazare T20 tournaments if he’s not playing international cricket.

Earlier, India’s star all-rounder, Irfan Pathan, questioned BCCI’s decision to give Hardik Pandya a central contract when players like Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were axed from their central contracts for not featuring in the Ranji Trophy. Irfan Pathan further went on to say that the parameters of judgment should be the same for everyone.

Irfan Pathan took his X account and wrote,”If players like Hardik don’t want to play red-ball cricket, should he and others like him participate in white-ball domestic cricket when they aren’t on national duty?”

“If this doesn’t apply to all, then Indian cricket won’t achieve the desired results!”
