Indian cricketer Saurabh Tiwary has declared his retirement from professional cricket. He will play his last match for Jharkhand against Jamshedpur on February 15 in the ongoing Ranji Trophy.

Tiwary initiated his cricket journey at the age of 11 and during the 2006-07 Ranji season, he marked his debut in first-class cricket as a teenager. His early success included winning the Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia in 2008, captained by Virat Kohli.

Tiwary showed some excellent performances in 2010, particularly with Mumbai Indians, where he scored 419 runs. This outstanding form earned him a spot in the India team for the Asian Cup. However, despite the call-up, he made his international debut in October 2010.

The southpaw batter went on to represent the Men in Blue in three ODIs and accumulated a total of 49 runs remaining unbeaten in two of those matches.

While talking about his retirement from ESPNCricinfo, Tiwary said, "It's a little tough to bid farewell to this journey that I had started before my schooling. But I'm also sure that this is the right time for this. I feel that if you're not in the national team and IPL, it's better to vacate a spot in the state side for a youngster. Youngsters are getting a lot of chances in our Test team so I'm making this decision."

"It's not like I've decided this only based on my performances. You can see my record in Ranji and the last domestic season. It's always asked what I'm going to do next and for now, I only know that cricket is the only thing I know so I'm going to be connected to the game. I got an offer from politics too but I haven't thought about that," Tiwary added.
