Gaikwad’s yellow army suffered their first defeat of the season as the Chennai Super Kings got beaten by the Delhi Capitals by 20 runs in Vizag.
CSK had a horrible start to their innings in chase of 192. The team failed to capitalize on the powerplay; however, later in the innings, Dhoni did his best of what he is known for, but it was not sufficient to get CSK over the line.
Speaking about the match, Gaikwad said”, “I was pretty much happy with the way they (the bowlers) came back after the start (powerplay). Restricting them to 191 was a good effort. The pitch was on the better side in the first inning. In the second inning, there was extra seam movement and a spongy bounce. I felt he (Rachin) was missing it by a big margin. We couldn’t get going in the first three overs, and that was the difference.”
Gaikwad further added, “At the halfway stage, it was getable. There was extra seam movement, and we couldn’t capitalize, and we were always behind. We didn’t get the big over to reduce the run rate.”
CSK needed 72 in the final four overs of the match, and Dhoni rose on the occasion, producing another masterclass, scoring 37 of just 16 deliveries. However, it was not enough to get CSK over the line.
