Tamim Iqbal Retires From The International Cricket 3 Months Before The ODI World Cup 2023

Just before the three months of the 50-over World Cup 2023, Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal has retired from the international career. He took this retirement in the presence of the press and ended his 16-year-old International career.

At a press conference held in Chattogram on Thursday, Tamim Iqbal made this emotional announcement. The day after Bangladesh’s loss to Afghanistan in the first of three ODIs, Tamim was visibly moved and had tears as he addressed the media. The defeat against Afghanistan seems to have a deep impact on him.

Bangladesh Cricket Board(BCB) is yet to name the next ODI captain of the side. Shakib Al Hasan handles the T20 side while Litton Das is the Test captain of his nation.

Tamim Iqbal started his international cricket in 2007 and he surprised everyone with his superb fifty against India in the 2007 ODI World Cup played in West Indies. He has finished as the most runs for any Bangladesh batsman in ODI cricket where he has scored 8313 runs. In 70 Test matches, the batter has accumulated 5134 runs at an average of 38.89.
