Suresh Raina Picks The Indian Openers For The 2024 T20I World Cup

Former Indian left-handed batter Suresh Raina has given his opinion on the inclusion of the Indian captain Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. The T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place in the USA and the West Indies in June this year.

According to Raina, the BCCI’s decision is a wise move, emphasizing the significance of the duo’s familiarity with the conditions. He believes that the Indian team stands to gain considerably from the valuable experience and skill that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli contribute to the squad.

According to a statement in PTI, Raina said, “If you look at the World Cup venues (in the USA and the West Indies), the wickets will be a bit tricky. India will need the experience of Rohit and Kohli there. Kohli is about to make 12000 runs in T20 cricket. So, their presence will boost India’s batting.”

Suresh Raina suggests that Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal should be the opening pair for India in T20Is, while he recommends Virat Kohli to bat at the No. 3 position.

“I think Kohli should bat at No. 3. His experience will bring in some solidity, especially in the challenging pitches in the US and the Caribbean. There are fearless, young cricketers like Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, or Shubman Gill but Rohit and Kohli will give the unit a lot of solidity. Their presence is very important when we chase a target, especially in a high-pressure event like the World Cup.”
