Sunil Gavaskar Note-worthy Remark For India’s Selection Committee Over Prithvi Shaw

Young opener batter Prithvi Shaw played blistering innings of 379 runs off 389 balls to help his team Mumbai to set a mammoth score of 687-4 in the 1st innings. This century was smashed by Prithvi Shaw against Assam at the Amingaon Cricket Ground in Guwahati. Prithvi Shaw gained his form just ahead of the Indian Premier League 2023 and will feature for Delhi Capitals in the IPL.

Indian Legendary Cricketer Sunil Gavaskar mentioned Prithvi Shaw during the commentary in the 2nd ODI match of India vs Sri Lanka; his knock in the Ranji Trophy acquired the attention of the national selectors towards himself.

“This is what was needed from him, and he was scoring lovely 60s-70s. So many people were scoring 60s-70s. If you want to grab the attention of the selection committee. Get the bigger hundreds, the double and triple hundreds. He almost got a 400; that would have been fantastic if he had gotten a 400-plus score,” Gavaskar said on air during India’s meeting with Sri Lanka in the 2nd ODI at Kolkata.

Further, Gavaskar praised the masterclass knock of the young opener batter. And also revealed his thought on the Mumbai team’s deceleration of 1st innings.

“I think he might have made it difficult for Mumbai to think about the declaration. Because then, he would have been close to the highest-ever score by an Indian (443, not out) in first-class cricket. There will have always been a temptation to go for that 443. It’s a very tough call,” said Gavaskar.

Recently Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah praised the knock of the Mumbai opener batter in the Ranji Trophy. And looking at the World Cup, his knock will play a big role in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to be held in India
