Stuart Broad name drops Shubman Gill for Brian Lara’s iconic 400 record

Wiaan Mulder, who was standing in as South Africa’s captain, chose not to go after Brian Lara’s record of 400 runs in a Test innings. He said that record should stay with the West Indies legend. In the game against Zimbabwe, Mulder declared South Africa’s innings at 367, even though he was captain.

The debate continues among fans and former players about whether Mulder’s decision was correct. But Stuart Broad, the England great, suggested that Shubman Gill of India would have broken Lara’s record if he hadn’t been out for 269 in the second test’s first innings at Edgbaston.

Broad said on the ‘For the love of cricket’ podcast : I think India were ten out of ten. It’s easy to criticize the losing team in Test cricket, which is England in this case, when a game is this one-sided. But India played amazingly. Shubman Gill scored 269, and honestly, he looked like he could have gotten Lara’s record. He was just relaxing. It didn’t seem like anything could bother him. He’s moved to number four since Kohli retired, even after spending most of his career opening. He got a hundred, a big double, and 150. It seems like he has no weak points at all.

Rain threatened India’s target of taking 7 wickets on the final day of the Test, making it a tense time for the team. Broad was sad to see his old team not manage to bat for 80 overs on the last day, given that England needed to bat for that long.England could have drawn the Test since they had to bat 80-odd overs because of the rain. I’m sure they’re a little disappointed they couldn’t achieve drawing it, there was nothing on the field that was a worn fifth-day pitch. They’ll probably be disappointed that they didn’t defend with a bit more skill, Broad mentioned.
