Sri Lankan Head coach Chris Silverwood parted ways with Lankan Cricket citing personal reasons

The coach of Sri Lanka’s cricket team, Chris Silverwood, has quit his job. He said he wants to be with his family more. It’s important to mention that Sri Lanka didn’t do well in the 2024 T20 World Cup. They were eliminated in the first round, in a group with South Africa, Bangladesh, Netherlands, and Nepal.

They were defeated by South Africa and Bangladesh, and their match with Nepal was canceled due to rain. Their sole victory in the competition was against the Netherlands in their last group stage game, but by then, they were already eliminated from the big event. Regarding Silverwood, he believes it’s time to go back to his family and be with them. He also expressed gratitude to the players, the board, and the support staff for their support during his time as the head coach.

“Being an international coach involves spending a lot of time away from family. After talking a lot with my family, I’ve decided it’s time to go home and enjoy some time with them. I want to thank everyone at the SLC, including the players, coaches, staff, and management, for their help while I was in Sri Lanka. I couldn’t have achieved anything without them.

“I’m really proud to have worked with Sri Lanka Cricket and I’ll always remember the good times,” Silverwood mentioned in an SLC media statement. One of the best moments during his time there was when Sri Lanka won the Asia Cup in 2022 by defeating Pakistan in the final. The next year, they reached the final of the 50-over Asia Cup but lost to India.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka also beat Australia in a series of one-day matches at their own ground and won two Test series against Bangladesh on foreign soil.
