Sri Lanka Board Announces The 4th Edition Of Lanka Premier League, Here Are The Details

With the continuous development of T20 Leagues in the World, Sri Lanka Board has announced the fourth edition of the Lanka Premier League. The tournament will start on July 31 and the final will be played on August 22.

The organizers of the tournament originally wanted to hold it in July and August but it has never actually taken place during this time in the past. Therefore, if everything goes as planned, the LPL will be held in these months for the first time.

Like last season, the five-team tournament will take place in three locations, most likely Kandy, Hambantota, and Colombo. Each team is allowed to have a maximum of 20 players in their squad with 14 of them required to be from Sri Lanka and the remaining six allowed to be foreign players.

The Major League Cricket (MLC) tournament in the USA and The Hundred in England will be taking place around the same time as the LPL. As a result, the Lanka Premier League will be unable to seek star overseas players.

“We have decided to hold the tournament during July and August this year, as conducting the tournament during this period gives us the best possible opportunity to attract top international talent and also suits well with Sri Lanka’s international cricket calendar,” LPL tournament director Samantha Dodanwela was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
