‘Shubman Gill Give Me The Feel Of MS Dhoni’, Why Sanjay Manjrekar Remembered Captain Cool After Gill’s 200

Shubman Gill’s batting masterpiece during the first ODI between India and New Zealand on Wednesday left former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar awestruck. At the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Gill played a magnificent knock to secure India’s thrilling victory over New Zealand in the series opener. Gill took the New Zealand bowlers and scored a sensational double hundred. Manjrekar gave the in-form batsman additional attention and even mentioned former Indian captain MS Dhoni’s six-hitting skills in one of his most recent tweets.

Manjrekar recalled the high-scoring match between the 2019 World Cup semi finalist teams, and former India cricketer Manjrekar shared his thoughts on Dhoni on Twitter. In the same tweet, the current commentator and former Indian cricketer made a significant statement about Gill.

Manjrekar twitted, “When I saw Dhoni the first time that he mostly hit straight sixes told me that he will be consistent when it comes to big hitting. Gill has the same gift. Fingers crossed for him.”

Gill continued his streak of consistent scoring and hit a magnificent double century, becoming the youngest player in ODI history to achieve the feat. India reached 349/8 thanks to his magnificent 208 in just 149 balls. In his brilliant innings, Gill smashed 19 fours and 9 sixes. In the 49th over, he punched a hat-trick of sixes to reach 200.

At the age of 23, Gill joins Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, and Ishan Kishan as the only other Indian male cricketers to score an ODI double-century.
