Shreyas Iyer Beats Virat, Rohit, and Dhawan In This Elite List

The egregious performance of the Indian team still continued on this tour. After the T20 World Cup 2022, they lost the important ODI series against New Zealand, and now they lost the series against Bangladesh. On Wednesday, India lost the second ODIs match of the three-match ODI series played at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur Dhaka against the host by five runs. The star-studded Indian side couldn’t chase down the total of 272 in 50 overs. But in the chase, Premier Indian Batter Shreyas Iyer and Rohit Sharma played terrific knocks to rescue the Indian side, but their innings weren’t enough.

Shreyas Iyer again showed his masterclass performance in the second ODI match against Bangladesh and smashed the 14th half-century of his ODIs career. Iyer played a great inning to pull back the sideline Indian innings on the track, but he wasn’t able to do so and got out on 82 off 102 balls.

With this inning, Iyer surpassed the Indian star batter Shikhar Dhawan and became the highest run-getter in ODIs this year. White ball maverick player Iyer has scored 721 runs in 16 matches this year so far; however Indian second-string skipper Dhawan has 685 runs in 21 matches this year. Whereas on the third spot is captured by the star batter Shubhman Gill, who has scored 638 runs in 12 ODIs matches for the Indian side. Indian wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant is in the fourth position with 336 runs in 12 ODIs matches. Power hitter Sanju Samson is in the fifth position with 284 runs in 10 ODIs matches.

The Indian selectors overlooked Shreyas Iyer in the previous T20 World Cup in Australia and have also sidelined Sanju Samson, who has performed very well this year in the ODIs. If the Indian selectors overlooked these young talents, then it will be impossible to win the bilateral series and also the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023
