Should Joe Root Abandon The Bazball Philosophy? Ian Chappell Weighs In

Both India and England are ready to face off against each other for the fourth time in the series in Ranchi on February 23.

However, after England’s loss to India in Rajkot by a huge margin of 434 runs, England’s approach in the series has been under the scanner.

After winning the first test match of the series, England suffered losses in back-to-back test matches because of their Bazball approach. One of the major reasons for England’s failure in this series is the form of Joe Root.

Joe Root has been completely out of form throughout the series, registering a string of single-digit scores in this series so far because of England’s bazball approach.

However, ahead of the fourth test match of the series, Australian skipper Ian Chappell has requested that Joe Root abandon the Bazball approach to get back in form.

“Root had a bloody fine record playing normally, and he was a quick scorer playing normally,” Chappell told reporters, describing Bazball as “bullshit.”.

“I don’t see why he’s trying to change things on this tour, and I’ve never believed that as a batsman, you should play premeditated shots,” Chappell added.

Root has been one of the best players for England in the longest format of the game, scoring over 11,000 runs; however, he has been criticized by experts all over the world for his way of getting dismissed.

Chappell also urged English players to play in an aggressive manner, but they should be playing according to the situation.
