The 13th edition of the ODI World Cup will be entirely hosted by India and now according to the latest report, the tournament will kick off on October 5 and the final of the World Cup will be played on November 19.
Meanwhile, the former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar has picked his finalists for the ODI World Cup. Akhtar has expressed his belief that India and Pakistan could potentially be the finalists of the upcoming ODI World Cup. However, the former feels that all the teams are preparing well and the way to the final will be very tough.
In 1983, the Indian cricket team, led by the iconic captain Kapil Dev won the World Cup for the first time. Then in 2011 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, India won their second ODI World Cup which was hosted by India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. Pakistan won the title only once in 1992, under the leadership of Imran Khan. The interesting part is that India defeated Pakistan in the semifinal of the 2011 World Cup in Mohali and then Sri Lanka in the finale.
“I want an India vs Pakistan final, whether they are playing in Mumbai or Ahmedabad. 2011 ka badla lena hai is baar (Want to avenge the loss of 2011 semi-final),” Akhtar told Sports Tak.
Recently, India and Pakistan clashed with each other in Asia Cup 2022 where they had two encounters. The first one was won by India in the group stage and then Pakistan made a huge comeback and thrashed India in the super four round.
