Team India started its World Cup campaign with a win against Australia by six wickets. The match was played at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai and it was all in all between Virat Kohli and KL Rahul.
Aussie captain Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bat first. However, they did not have a great start and they lost Mitchell Marsh too early, it was David Warner(41) who took his team ahead along with Steven Smith(47). The bowling all-rounder Mitchell Starc also contributed with 28 runs. With this, Australia reached a respective total of 199 runs.
For India, Ravindra Jadeja grabbed three wickets while Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah managed to get two wickets each.
While chasing the target of 200 runs, India lost Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Shreyas Iyer when India was standing at two runs only. After the departure of this trio, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul stitched a partnership of 165 runs. KL Rahul got 97 runs while Virat Kohli managed to get 85 on his card.
Meanwhile, the former Indian batter and now a reputed commentator Aakash Chopra praised the batting of KL Rahul for silenting his critics after some disastrous innings.
While speaking to his YouTube channel, he said, “He has been the recipient of a lot of criticism. I feel he has been trolled unnecessarily on social media. Sometimes it is extremely toxic criticism. Not that he is my relative but the fact is that he scores a lot of runs.”
