Shahid Afridi, the old Pakistan captain, wasn’t happy about how the team’s been playing. After they lost the first two T20Is against New Zealand, he called out both the players and the team managers. Afridi was annoyed by how the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) picks players and manages them. He told the media that the current batters have a problem with their game plan.
It seems like everyone’s trying to bat like Shahid Afridi, but you can’t hit 200 every single game, he said.
He went on, They’re sending first-class players who’ve only played 10-11 matches. They picked pacers when they needed spinners, and spinners when they needed pacers.
Afridi also mentioned Mohammad Hasnain and Usman Khan, players who’ve looked good in domestic games but haven’t been picked for the national team in ages.
He asked, These guys have been sitting on the bench for ages, and they still don’t get a chance. What’s the point of keeping them on the team if they’re not going to play?
Afridi wasn’t thrilled with how the PCB has been dealing with the Pakistan cricket team’s recent performance, either. Pakistan had a rough year, getting knocked out early from both the T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy 2025. Afridi didn’t like all the leadership changes and the inconsistent decisions.
He wrapped up by saying, The board needs a chairman who’s here to stay. Babar Azam got plenty of chances as captain, so why did Mohammad Rizwan only get six months?
