Shadab Khan Opens On His Poor Performance In The ODI World Cup 2023

Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan has taken accountability for his average performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup. The Men in Green were unable to secure a spot in the semi-finals for the third consecutive edition. They finished the tournament in fifth position in the points table.

Babar Azam and his team entered the tournament with high expectations, being considered as one of the favorites. Unfortunately, their aspirations took a hit due to four back-to-back defeats. Despite managing to secure four wins out of nine matches, Pakistan fell short of their intended success in the tournament.

Pakistan faced many challenges during the tournament, and a key factor in their difficulties was the limited contribution from their spinners. There were high expectations from spinners such as Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz. Unfortunately, these players did not deliver when it counted the most, and Usama Mir also struggled to make a significant impact.

Shadab Khan said, “I have let myself down, I didn’t live up to my potential as a bowler which has impacted the team’s performance. You always try to win a tournament, but this could not happen. We are out of the semifinals. Coaches, players, support staff, everyone is disappointed.”

He further added, “Whenever a tournament starts, we have to improve in all three departments. As a team, we failed to adapt to modern-day cricket.”
