Sanju Samson And Shubman Gill Will Be Picked In T20 World Cup Squad Or Not? Here Is The Big Update

The senior selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, will hold a meeting in Ahmedabad on Tuesday to finalize India’s squad for the T20 World Cup in June. The highlight of the discussion will revolve around the potential inclusion of Sanju Samson and Shubman Gill.

The Indian Express reports that although Samson is likely to be chosen for the US and Caribbean tour, his spot in the squad is not certain. This is because the Indian team management is seeking a wicketkeeper who can also bat lower in the lineup looking at the abundance of top-order batsmen already available.

Agarkar returned to India after a break and met with India captain Rohit Sharma during the Mumbai Indians’ match against Delhi Capitals on Saturday. Rohit will join the selection meeting remotely from Lucknow via video conference. It’s been noted that the Indian team management has briefed the selection committee about their T20 World Cup needs, and there are no plans for surprising additions like in the past two editions held in the UAE and Australia.

Rishabh Pant is expected to secure a wicket-keeping position, leaving the selection dilemma between Samson and Rahul. Despite Rahul’s impressive IPL performance, India is cautious about adding another top-order batsman as Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Virat Kohli are already there. Sanju Samson is also serving at number three for Rajasthan Royals which has lowered his chances for the Indian squad.
