Sanjay Bangar Names His 15-member Squad For ODI World Cup, No Place For Shardul Thakur, Chahal

After the series of experts, now former Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar has picked his 15-member squad for the ODI World Cup 2023. Bangar surprised everyone by including the left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh into the squad and leaving the star bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur.

The 2023 edition of the ODI World Cup is scheduled to take place in India, spanning from October 5 to November 19. India is set to participate in the Asia Cup and subsequently engage in a three-match ODI series at home against Australia. BCCI’s chief selector, Ajit Agarkar has acknowledged that the composition of the World Cup squad will closely resemble the team chosen for the Asia Cup.

While talking to Star Sports, Sanjay named his 15 players. He said that for the mega event set to happen in India, he will go with five specialist batters, two wicketkeeper-batters, two spin-bowling all-rounders, one pace-bowling all-rounder, one specialist spinner, and four fast bowlers.

He said, “My specialist batters would be Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, while wicket-keeper batters are Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul. For spin bowling all-rounders, I would prefer both left-armers – Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja.”

Bangar further concluded, “One pace bowling all-rounder would be Hardik Pandya, while the specialist spinner would be Kuldeep Yadav. The four fast bowlers would be Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, and Arshdeep Singh.”
