Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has said that Afghanistan’s remarkable spin-bowling unit will be their main asset as they approach the 2023 Asia Cup.
The Asia Cup is scheduled to take place between August 30 and September 17. It will be jointly hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka . Afghanistan finds itself in Group B alongside Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Their first match of the tournament will be against Shakib Al Hasan’s team in Lahore on Sunday, September 3.
While talking to his official youtube channel, Aakash Chopra said,”Their bowling is always good. If they get a slightly spin-friendly wicket, they keep you in check and open you up as well. Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan will be all over you like a rash.”
The former cricketer further added,”If the pitch is assisting spin even more, you might also see Noor Ahmad in the team. If they play Noor Ahmad, then 10 overs each for him, Rashid, Nabi and Mujeeb – they will not let you breathe if they get a spin-friendly pitch.”
Rashid Khan has 170 wickets for Afghanistan in 87 ODIs. Mujeeb-ur-Rahman has grabbed 91 dismissals in 64 games while the senior player Mohammad Nabi has got 154 dismissals in 145 matches.
