Sachin’s Emotional Statement Over Arjun’s Debut In IPL 2023 For Mumbai Indians

Legendary India batsman Sachin Tendulkar posted a heartwarming note after his son Arjun Tendulkar made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians (MI) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday.

Arjun Tendulkar became the first son to play for the same Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise that his father, Sachin Tendulkar, represented for many years.

Opening the bowling, the left-arm fast bowler conceded five runs in his first over. He loudly appealed to LBW against Jagadishan, but the umpire turned it down as it looked like the ball would go over the stumps. In his second over, he was driven off the backfoot for a boundary by KKR’s Venkatesh Iyer, who then hit a slightly mistimed six over wide long-on in the next ball.

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar shared his feeling after watching Arjun on the field for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. “This was a new experience for me because till now, I had not gone and watched him play. I just wanted him to have that freedom to go out and express himself whatever he wanted,” said the legendary Indian cricketer.

He further added, “I sat in the dressing room because I didn’t want him to let him move away from his plans and start looking at the mega screen here and suddenly realized that I was watching there. I was inside. It’s a different feeling because 2008 was my first season, and 16 years later, he plays for the same team. Not bad”.

Eventually, Arjun returned with figures of 0/17 in a match that ended with Mumbai emerging victorious by five wickets, despite KKR’s Venkatesh Iyer scoring a century.

Sachin Tendulkar tweeted with pictures of father and son, “Arjun, today you have taken another important step in your journey as a cricketer. As your father, someone who loves you and is passionate about the game, I know you will continue to give the game the respect it deserves, and the game will love you back. You have worked very hard to reach here, and I am sure you will continue to do so. This is the start of a beautiful journey. All the best”.

Arjun has been with Mumbai Indians for the last few years. He was selected in the auction in 2021 but had to withdraw due to injury. He was also selected in the 2022 auction but did not get a chance to play a single match last year.
