SA vs IND: Two-Star Indian Pacers Ruled Out From The South Africa Tour, BCCI Names Replacement

Two experienced Indian pacers will be unavailable for the upcoming South Africa tour for different reasons. Mohammed Shami has been ruled out from the Test series while Deepak Chahar has opted to withdraw from the ODIs.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced on Saturday, December 16, through an official press release. Mohammed Shami’s participation in the two-match Test series depended on his fitness, and the BCCI has not approved the player. Shami is in the process of recovering from an ankle injury.

“Mr Mohd Shami, whose participation in the Test series was subject to fitness, hasa not been cleared by the BCCI Medical Team and the fast bowler is ruled out of the two Tests,” BCCI stated in a release.

On the other hand, Deepak Chahar is going through a family emergency. His father has been admitted to the hospital and he won’t join the squad until his father gets back to normal. As a replacement for Deepak Chahar, BCCI has picked Akash Deep for the upcoming ODI series.

“Mr Deepak Chahar has informed the BCCI that he will not be available for the upcoming ODI series due to a family medical emergency. The Men’s Selection Committee has named Mr Akash Deep as his replacement,” the BCCI informed.

Not only this, star batter Shreyas Iyer won’t be playing in the 2nd and 3rd ODI games against South Africa. He will then join the team for the preparation for the two-match Test series.
