The retired Rohit Sharma from T20I and Test cricket now plays with India in ODI matches exclusively. More than one hundred articles have described Rohit Singh’s future in ODI competitions which will begin when he turns forty during the 2027 tournament that will take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. Rohit dedicated himself to becoming World Cup champion through his team commitment which required him to maintain peak athletic condition for the major tournament.
“I definitely want to go out there and win the World Cup for my country; that is something that I’ve always looked upon. The 50-over World Cup has been a part of my life since I was a child. The cricket world used to reach its highest point every four years through World Cup matches because T20 World Cup and IPL matches did not exist at that time. So, there was desperation; there was so much weight for that one trophy. And yeah, I really want that trophy, so I’m going to try and do everything in my power and capacity to work hard and get it,” Rohit said during an ICC event.
The player who turned 38 stopped playing T20I matches after India won the T20 World Cup in 2024. He also retired from Test cricket after playing his final match in May of the previous year.
The BCCI annual central contract system which awarded its latest contracts to Rohit and Virat Kohli now gives both players Group B status after removing A+ contracts which provided Rs 7 crore retainership fees.
The BCCI awarded central contract to 30 men and 21 women cricketers classified in group A, B and C.
The cycle for new central contract is based on performance and volume of games played during the preceding season.
The organization kept Shubman Gill as their two-format captain while they maintained Jasprit Bumrah as their top fast bowler and Ravindra Jadeja as their main Test all-rounder in group A.
The BCCI declined to disclose the exact amounts of retainership fees which apply to all three contract categories.
