Rajasthan Royals young batter Riyan Parag surprised fans when he was asked to choose his top 4 teams for the T20 World Cup. Parag stated that he wouldn’t be watching the tournament and wasn’t concerned about which teams would reach the knockout stage.
Meanwhile, India has started their mission to break the ICC title drought, where they will face Ireland in their first match on June 05.
Parag mentioned that he would only be interested in the top 4 teams once he gets the chance to participate in the World Cup himself.
“It would be a very biased answer, but to be very honest, I don’t even want to watch the World Cup. I will just see who is winning it at the end and I will be happy. When I play the World Cup, then I will think about the top 4 and all of that,” Parag told the Bharat Army.
The 22-year-old had an impressive performance in the recently concluded IPL 2024. He finished as the 3rd highest run-scorer. He amassed 573 runs in 16 matches with a strike rate of 149.21, including four fifties.
Earlier, Parag had expressed confidence in soon making it into the Indian team.
“At some point, you’ll have to take me, right? So that is my belief, I’m going to play for India. I don’t really care when,” Parag told PTI.
“When I was not scoring runs – I said this in an interview as well that I am going to play for India.”
“That is me believing in myself. That is not me being arrogant. That is what my plan was with my dad, when I started playing cricket when I was like 10-years-old. We were going to play for India regardless of anything.”
