Given the nature of his injuries sustained in a serious car accident, it is anticipated that he may need approximately six months to regain full fitness and confidence in keeping wickets.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official stated that it would be imprudent to rush Pant’s recovery process, considering the severity of his injuries. However, they also expressed optimism about Pant’s future, given his young age and potential longevity in the sport.
“Rishabh’s progress is remarkable. But it is difficult to predict his wicketkeeping future. He may take 6 months to resume wicket-keeping after returning to competitive cricket. We can’t rush with the injuries he suffered in a fatal car accident. Rishabh is young and has a lot of cricket left in him,” a BCCI official told InsideSport.
In Pant’s absence, the Delhi Capitals tried Abhishek Porel and Sarfaraz Khan as wicketkeeper options, but neither made a significant impression. As a result, the team will need to search for a more capable backup wicketkeeper to support Pant in the upcoming season.
