Indian star wicketkeeper batsman and Delhi Capitals skipper has made an impressive comeback in cricket after his tragic car accident. However, in his team’s previous encounter against the Delhi Capitals, Rishabh Pant was reprimanded for 24 lakhs for maintaining a slow overrate.
Rishabh Pant repeated this offense twice, so Rishabh Pant and his team were also reprimanded for the same offense.
An official statement from the IPL was released, which said, “Rishabh Pant, the Delhi Capitals captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Kolkata Knight Riders.”
“As it was his team’s second offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses, Pant was fined INR 24 lakhs.”
The statement further added, “The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 6 lakhs or 25 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.”
The Delhi Capitals lost this game against KKR by a huge margin of 106 runs. KKR, on being invited to bat, first scored 272 runs, which is the second-highest total in IPL history.
However, because of his repetitive offense, Rishabh Pant could face a match ban in the IPL.
According to the rules of the IPL, “If a captain repeats a slow overrate offense for the third consecutive time, The captain is handed a one-match ban along with a fine of Rs 30 lakh. The rest of the team is also imposed a fine of Rs 12 lakh, or 50% of their match fees.”
