By taking those two wickets, Wanindu Hasaranga achieved the milestone of becoming the second Sri Lankan player to secure 100 wickets in the T20I format, after the legendary Lasith Malinga. However, Hasaranga has become the fastest Sri Lankan to claim 100 T20I wickets, getting this milestone in his 63rd match.
Wanindu Hasaranga now stands as the second-fastest player to achieve this feat, trailing only behind Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan, who accomplished it in just 53 games. Sri Lanka legend Malinga achieved the milestone in 76 matches.
In the history of the T20I format, only 11 players have attained the milestone of 100 wickets. The first player on the list is veteran New Zealand bowler Tim Southee who has 157 wickets in 122 matches.
The Sri Lankan leg-spinner was in excellent form, dismissing Karim Janat and Najibullah Zadran in the second T20I match. Wanindu Hasaranga concluded the game with impressive figures of 4 overs, 19 runs, and 2 wickets on Monday. In the first game, Hasaranga not only contributed with the ball by taking 1 wicket but also played a crucial role with the bat and scored 67 runs.
