In the 14th match of Indian Premier League 2023, KKR beat Punjab Kings by 3 wickets, thanks to the brilliant hitting by Rinku Singh who stood alone for the KKR. With 29 runs needed in the last over, Rinku showed great temperament and smashed Yash Dayal all around the park to clinch an impossible victory.
The left-handed batter scored 43 runs off just 21 balls with the help of four and six sixes. With these innings, he breaks a huge record of the former Indian captain Mahendra Singh who is also currently leading the men in yellow- Chennai Super Kings. Rinku has registered his name for scoring the most number of runs in the 20th over of IPL in a winning cause.
Back in 2016, playing for Rising Pune Super Giants, widely known as ‘Captain Cool’, MS Dhoni smashed 23 runs off Axar Patel to chase down a tough target in the last over at Vizag. At that time Patel was the part of Punjab Kings and this inning by Dhoni made him into the list of one of the most unique milestones.
Rinku Singh also embedded his name in the list of Chris Gayle, Ravindra Jadeja, and Rahul Tewatia. Singh became the 4th batter in IPL history to shatter five sixes in an over.
With this win, KKR has moved to the second spot in the IPL 2023 Points Table. So far the team has won two matches out of three games.
