Record Alert: Ravindra Jadeja Surpasses Kapil Dev, Becomes 1st Indian To Achieve This Huge Milestone; also equals Ashwin Record

After bowling out Australia for 177 runs in the first innings, Team India has taken a lead of more than 100 runs in its first innings and they are going ahead in the series opener in Nagpur. The veteran Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has so far played an important role in taking India to the driving seat in this match. The batter has completed his half-century and with this, he has made a unique record for himself.

On Friday, Ravindra Jadeja created history by being the only Indian to ever pick up five wickets and score fifty runs in the same match five times.

Australia’s middle order was shaken by Jadeja’s five wickets for 47 runs and a 114-ball half-century on day two of the game. Jadeja (5) has now surpassed Kapil Dev’s (4) previous milestone of fifty runs and five-wicket wickets in a single test inning.

At the same time, it is the 6th time when Jadeja has picked five wickets and scored fifty in a single test match. Ashwin holds the record for the same number of times.

The 34-year-old Jadeja was sidelined for five months by a knee injury he sustained at the Asia Cup the previous year. He missed the ICC T20 World Cup while recovering from surgery, which caused him to miss the event.

In order to assess his level of fitness before this series, Saurashtra named Jadeja for the Ranji Trophy match against Tamil Nadu in January. In the second innings, he scored 53 runs while picking up seven wickets in an inning.
