Mumbai Indians beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets in the 54th match of Indian Premier League 2023 played at Wankhede Stadium.
The win was significant for Mumbai Indians because it propelled them to the third position in the points table. Not only did they improve their overall score, but they also enhanced their Net Run Rate. With this win, Mumbai Indians achieved a remarkable feat by completing the fastest 200+ run chase in the history of the Indian Premier League. They successfully chased down the target of 200 runs in just 16.3 overs with 21 balls still remaining and six wickets in hand.
Before it, the record belonged to Delhi Capitals which chased down the target of 208 runs with 15 balls to spare. They did the feat against Gujarat Lions back in 2017.
The third team in the list is Punjab Kings. In 2010, the Punjab team chased the target of 201 runs against KKR with 10 balls to go.
Talking about the match, Mumbai came to chase down a target of 200 runs. Ishan Kishan(42) gave a solid start to Mumbai Indians. However, the skipper Rohit Sharma once again failed to score runs and returned to Pavilion after scoring seven runs.
After the departure of Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Nehal Wadhera took the job ahead and scored brutally against the RCB bowlers. Suryakumar Yadav got 83 runs in just 35 balls with the help of seven fours and six sixes. Wadhera from the other end kept the momentum as well and smacked 52 runs in just 34 balls which includes four fours and three maximums.
