Ravichandran Ashwin And Ravindra Jadeja On The Verge To Make History For India In Test Cricket

On day 4 of the second Test match between India and the West Indies, the spin maestros Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja achieved a monumental milestone, picking up 500 wickets together in the game’s longer format. With this achievement, they became only the second Indian pair to reach this remarkable feat, following in the footsteps of Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh.

The historic moment arrived when Ashwin claimed the wicket of Kirk McKenzie on the fourth day of the match at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain on Sunday, July 23. Ashwin and Jadeja have been formidable, playing together in 49 Test matches. Ashwin’s contributions amounted to 274 wickets, while Jadeja accounted for 226 wickets. The spin duo boasts an impressive record of 32 five-wicket hauls and 8 ten-wicket hauls combined.

Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh hold the record for the leading Indian pair with 501 Test wickets between them. However, with just one wicket shy of the milestone, Ashwin and Jadeja can surpass their predecessors and claim the top spot on the final day of the ongoing match.

During the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2023 series against Australia, Ashwin expressed his admiration for bowling alongside Ravindra Jadeja. He praised Jadeja’s phenomenal form in batting and bowling and acknowledged his exceptional fielding skills. The camaraderie and mutual support between the two players have undoubtedly contributed to their incredible success as a spin duo for India.

In the ongoing second Test against the West Indies, the Rohit Sharma-led team declared their second innings at a formidable total of 181-2 in just 24 overs, setting a daunting target of 365 runs for the hosts. Ashwin’s prowess with the ball was on display as he picked up two wickets before the end of the fourth day’s play, significantly restricting the West Indies to 76/2.
