BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla vividly remembers his first meeting with singer Chris Martin during Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres World Tour. Coldplay toured Mumbai performing for three straight days before two tours in Ahmedabad. In a recent interview, Shukla amusingly remembered his first introduction with Martin, stating that he wasn’t aware of the singer’s identity in their first meeting.
“I didn’t know who Chris Martin was because I had never met him. I knew that there was a band, but I didn’t know who he was. I was there because Sachin Tendulkar had held a program for his foundation, so I went to attend it. I would never have thought that they will come . I met him there” Shukla said during an interaction with Ranveer Allahbadia on YouTube
Shukla also narrated the funny incident of meeting Martin’s father. He narrated, “His father was sitting there, and I went up to him, presented my introduction: ‘I haven’t met you, could you please give a brief of yourself?’ He said, ‘I am Chris Martin’s father.’ Then I asked, ‘Where’s Chris Martin?’ He said he was sitting next to me. Then I met him.”
Shukla attended Coldplay’s concert and gave a candid admission about how it was. He said he couldn’t comprehend the music, yet felt the excitement and the atmosphere surrounding that time.
“It was very good. I didn’t follow the music, so I couldn’t understand the songs. I’m not lying. But the rhythm and the lighting were very impressive. The vibes were really strong-positive vibes, strong. And he was a very nice person,” Shukla revealed.
