Has Punjab Kings already found the successor of Yuzvendra Chahal ahead of IPL 2026? Check out

Vishal Nishad’s narrative is relatable to numerous Indian adolescents from towns or villages who are chasing their dreams without monetary supports. They frequently rent or borrow tools and put their hopes in their sweat, discipline, and destiny to lead them to triumph.

The IPL 2026 auction that took place in Abu Dhabi on December 16 was looked up to by many, especially the big stars like Cameron Green and Venkatesh Iyer, while other fans were only focused on the bidding wars. Nevertheless, the pandemonium brought enormous relief to Vishal Nishad, a leg-spinner from Gorakhpur. He was silently watching the event at Kanpur’s Kamla Club during Uttar Pradesh’s Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 campaign, praying for one raised paddle that could change his life.

The first two rounds of IPL 2026 were frustrating. However, in the third round, Punjab Kings picked the talent of Vishal Nishad for the base price of INR 30 lakh. That fleeting moment was the embodiment of his silent years of struggle and an unshakeable conviction that through his bowling, he would one day be recognized.

From Tennis Cricket to Leather Ball: The Transformation of Vishal’s Game

Vishal Nishad’s entry into the world of cricket was in the village of Jangal Ayodhya Prasad, near the Khorabar police station in Gorakhpur, a place still longing for an adequate playground for cricket. It was his peer Vineet Pandey who eventually persuaded him to go for leather ball training after watching his bowling in the local tennis ball matches.

Initially, the 20-year-old, whose father is a carpenter and a mason at the same time, was not very favourable to this idea. But Pandey did not give up and went to a coach at the Sanskriti Cricket Academy in Gorakhpur. Coach Kalyan Singh asked Vishal Nishad to bowl, and the coach who was impressed with his bowling gave him three years’ training free of cost.

The Hard Work of Vishal Nishad and His Coach’s Support Led Him to the First Breakthrough When the Trials for UP T20 League 2024 Were Announced. But There Was One More Problem. The Trials Were Set to Take Place in Noida, and Vishal Couldn’t Afford the Trip. He Borrowed INR 2,000 from His Friend to Go the Venue and Made a Good Impression on the Selectors by Taking Three Wickets in the Very First Practice Match, Which Earned Him a Place in the Team of Gorakhpur Lions. Vishal Took Seven Wickets in Four Matches at the Rate of 14 and with an Economy of 7 in His First Season, Thus Proving His Worth.

Vishal Nishad then had another good season, where he took five wickets in five matches with an economy rate of 8.65. One of his best bowling performances in the tournament was against Noida Kings, where he gave away 45 runs for 3 wickets, one of which was Indian batter Nitish Rana’s out for just 14 runs.

He has Still Not Been Able to Play for the State Team (Uttar Pradesh) in any Format, However, His UP T20 League Achievements and His “Mystery Bowling” Videos Have Attracted the Attention of IPL Franchise Scouts. PBKS Scout Ankit Rajpoot, Who Had Already Seen Him in the UP T20 League, Took the Initiative to Push His Case for Inclusion.

“Vishal Has Always Been a Favorable Case for Me since His Excellent Performance during the Trials for the UP T20 League 2024. Later He Bowled as a Net Bowler with Andhra Pradesh during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Where Punjab Kings’ Assistant Coach Trevor Gonsalves Was Watching Him. What Is so Special About Vishal Is His Unique, Mystery Style, Which Is Quite Similar to Varun Chakravarthy or Ajantha Mendis. He Cannot Be Read, Has So Many Variations, and Can Hit the Stumps from Anywhere Making Him Suitable for T20 Cricket,” Rajpoot Said to Hindustan Times.

Interestingly, Varun Chakaravarthy Also Made His IPL Debut with PBKS in 2019 but He Was Released Before the Next Season.

Vishal Nishad, who is now under contract with Punjab Kings and having the opportunity to share the same dressing room with Yuzvendra Chahal, the all-time leading wicket-taker in IPL, has a bright future in front of him.
