Often regarded as one of the pillars of Indian test history Cheteshwar Pujara has been out of India’s test setup for quite a while now.
Team India is currently playing against England in a five-match test series and had announced its squad for the final three test matches a few days ago. However, prolific Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara was once again ignored by the selectors for the last three test matches against England.
With Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer already missing out on the series due to various reasons, team India decided to go with a less experienced batting line-up against England for the final three test matches. On the other hand, a player like Cheteshwar Pujara, who had represented India in over 100 test matches, was ignored for selection.
Reacting to the same Former Indian great Karsan Ghaveri said, “I don’t understand why Cheteshwar Pujara has been dropped from India’s test team. He should have been in the team from the first test match itself.”
Ghaveri further stated that With Virat Kohli remaining unavailable for the final three test matches, Pujara was not only a great replacement for Kohli but also a great player of the test format, which team India should have included in the test squad.”
India is currently playing with Shubhman Gill at number three, and with Shreyas Iyer and Ks Bharat failing to impress in the longer formats of the game, they have been replaced by Dhruv Jurel and Sarfraz Khan for the third test match.

As far as Pujara’s concern goes, India’s test batter has been in great form in the ongoing Ranji season and has scored 673 runs at an average of 74.77.
Speaking on Pujara, Ghaveri said that “Pujara is fighting for his spot in Team India, and he has been doing remarkably well. If he makes a comeback, I won’t be surprised.”
The series is currently tied at 1-1, with the third test currently being played in Rajkot.
