Pathum Nissanka’s Injury Blow: Sri Lanka’s T20I Squad Announcement

The Lankan Lions are set to face the Bengal Tigers in a multi-format series that includes three one-day,three Twenty20, and two test matches.

Both teams are set to face each other in a three-match T-20 series, which is going to start on March 4.

However, the Sri Lankan team has announced their squad ahead of the three-match series against Bangladesh, and they are all set to miss the services of one of their consistent run-getters, Pathum Nissanka, due to injury.
All the other players in the squad are quite the same, which defeated Afghanistan in the three-match T20 series by 2-1.

One of the other major drawbacks for Sri Lanka is that Captain Wanindu Hasranga is all set to miss the first two matches of the series due to his suspension by the ICC recently. In his absence, Charith Aslanka will take over as the captain of the team.

Jaffrey Vandersay is a surprise pick in the squad, as the spinner was last seen in the Twenty20 format for Sri Lanka way back in 2022. Vandersay is most likely to fill Hasranga’s slot in his absence and is most likely to play the first two of the 20 matches of the series.

Avishka Fernando is also given a chance due to Pathum Nissanka being injured; however, the opener has a modest number in the shortest format of the game. Avishka has 337 runs for Sri Lanka in 31 matches at an average of 11.62.

Sri Lanka T20I squad: Wanindu Hasaranga (c), Charith Asalanka (vc), Kusal Mendis (wk), Sadeera Samarawickrama, Angelo Mathews, Dasun Shanaka, Maheesh Theekshana, Dhananjaya de Silva, Kusal Janith Perera, Dilshan Madushanka, Nuwan Thushara, Matheesha Pathirana, Akila Dananjaya, Binura Fernando, Kamindu Mendis, Avishka Fernando, Jeffrey Vandersay
