Pathirana announced his departure from CSK on Instagram, suggesting a potential exit from the IPL due to injury. Although his post hints at being ruled out, CSK has not confirmed it officially. Pathirana has been dealing with hamstring issues and has returned to Sri Lanka for recovery.
Pathirana suffered the injury during the T20I series against Afghanistan before the IPL began. Despite making a comeback, the injury continued to trouble him. On Sunday, CSK issued an official statement regarding Pathirana’s injury recovery. In his farewell message, Pathirana also expressed his desire for CSK to win the IPL trophy for the sixth time.
While uploading a few pictures on his social media handle, Pathirana wrote, “A hard goodbye with my only wish to see the 2024 IPL champion trophy in CSK’s room soon! Grateful to the CSK team for all the blessings and love from Chennai.”
Chennai Super Kings management need some better strategy regarding their fast bowling choices to ensure a playoff spot. Mustafizur Rahman, who returned to Bangladesh for the T20I series against Zimbabwe, is no longer an option for them. Furthermore, with Pathirana sidelined due to injury, their bowling resources have been significantly reduced.
Chennai Super Kings are placed at third spot in the points table with 12 points out of 11 matches they have played so far. In their next match, Chennai Super Kings will now face Gujarat Titans on May 10.
