Pat Cummins Or Mitchell Marsh ? Aaron Finch Picks Australian Skipper For T20 World Cup 2024

Former Australian captain Aaron Finch has not supported the idea of Pat Cummins becoming the captain of the Australian Cricket team for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. He proposed Mitchell Marsh as the preferred candidate to lead the team in the tournament. Finch recognized the fitness issues surrounding Marsh but expressed confidence that if he is fully fit, he should be designated as the captain.

The Australian Cricket Team hasn’t announced their captain for the tournament and the selectors will meet later this week to decide. Marsh got injured during the IPL and went back home. Cummins is doing a good job as captain for both Australia and his IPL team, SRH.

During an interview with India Today on the Star Sports Press Room Show, Finch discussed the workload of Cummins who is currently captaining Australia in ODI and Test cricket, as well as SRH in the IPL.

“Depends on Mitchel Marsh and his fitness. He is out at the moment. If he is fit, he will captain the Australian side, in my opinion. Australian cricket is really mindful of the load on Pat Cummins as a player and as a leader,” Finch said.

Finch recognized that captaining multiple prestigious teams could be challenging, so he proposed that Marsh could be selected to lead Australia.

“It’s incredibly time-consuming to be a captain of an international team and a franchise team as a leader. The fact that he is captaining in Test cricket, ODI cricket, IPL, that is an incredible load, as well as playing all 3 formats and expecting to be at your absolute best, day in and day out, which he has been for the last couple of years.”

“I think the recharge which he needs away from the game will come through Mitchell Marsh captaining and I don’t know if he would be the right man for Australia at the moment.”
