PAK vs BAN, ODI World Cup 2023: “We have to win against Pakistan because…”: Shakib Al Hasan Warns Babar Azam & Co. Just Ahead Of Clash

Bangladesh, captained by the seasoned Shakib Al Hasan, is gearing up for a pivotal clash against Pakistan on October 31st at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The match holds significant importance in their T20 World Cup campaign as Bangladesh aims to revive their fortunes after disappointing performances.

At the onset of the tournament, few anticipated Bangladesh to be a front-runner for the semifinals. However, their journey so far has been anything but expected. Bangladesh initiated their campaign positively with a convincing 6-wicket win over Afghanistan. This victory raised hopes and set a promising tone for the Bangla Tigers.

Yet, as the tournament progressed, their fortunes took an unfortunate turn. The team faced a disheartening setback by losing five consecutive games. This streak included a shocking defeat at the hands of the Netherlands, a performance that baffled fans and experts alike.

In their encounter against the Netherlands, Bangladesh had a golden opportunity to rekindle their campaign. Batting first, the Netherlands posted a modest total of 229 runs. It was a score that Bangladesh was expected to chase down comfortably. However, their batters faltered, leading to a dismal display where they were bowled out for just 142 runs. The unexpected defeat dealt a severe blow to Bangladesh’s chances in the tournament.

As things stand, Bangladesh finds itself in a precarious position, occupying the ninth spot in the ten-team competition’s points table. With only one victory from six games, their hopes of advancing to the semifinals appear bleak. Nonetheless, Shakib Al Hasan remains determined and persistent in his quest for redemption.

Shakib Al Hasan recognizes that despite their challenging circumstances, there is still much to play for. He emphasizes that the team has a unique opportunity to secure a place in the prestigious Champions Trophy. The top eight teams, along with the host nation, Pakistan, will earn coveted spots for the 2025 Champions Trophy.

“We discussed it, we had our team meetings, so we sat down, we talked about it, but we have to show it in action, and that the talk is cheap when it’s not working,” said Shakib Al Hasan.

He underscores the significance of translating words into actions on the cricket field. The team’s actions, he believes, are the only means by which they can reverse their fortunes. It’s a challenge that the team must embrace with determination and resilience.

“So, we’ll do it at the ground so the action can take care of it and everyone can see it. I mean, only we can change the situation of the team with our actions. So that’s what we are trying to do. There is a lot to play for. As you know, we have to win to be able to qualify for the Champions Trophy. That’s an important target I think we can set at this moment. We have to win. We have no other option and that’s what we would look to do,” he added.
