Pak Legends Fume Over No-ball Controversy, Questions The Umpiring Process

Team India started their T20 World Cup campaign with a win where they thrashed Pakistan by 4 wickets. The match was all about the Virat Kohli’s superhuman effort where he stood alone and scored 82* to take India home.

India needed 15 runs in the last over to win the match with Kohli and Dinesh Karthik at the crease. Pakistan’s spinner Mohammad Nawaz bowled a delivery which went for a high full toss. Kohli did not miss the chance and sent it to the stand for a six. Just after hitting the ball, Kohli asked no-ball from the umpire and then Marais Erasmus standing as the leg umpire gave a no-ball in favour of India.

However, the men in green did not accept the fact and did protest against the delivery but the decision continued to be on the Indian side. With one run needed in one ball, Ravi Ashwin smashed a boundary after which Indian won this thriller by 4 wickets.

After the match, many of the Pakistani legends did not control themselves to give some word about the umpire’s decision. These legends include the likes of Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Shoaib Malik.

While sitting among the Panel of A Sports, Akram said,”The ball seemed to dip but it’s kind of touch and go. To the naked eye, it did not seem like a no-ball but in slow-motion, it does seem like it dipped … Any batsman will turn and ask for no ball. That’s not his [Kohli]s] fault. Such a big game. You have the technology. Use it. Why flare up things unnecessarily?”

Shoaib Malik on the Panel said,”When you have an option, you should take help from the third umpire, especially in such a big match at a crunch situation. Anyone can make a mistake but they should have consulted the third umpire. If the decision was taken after the replays which we saw it would have been better.”
