Match No. 17 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 was played between Bangladesh vs Nederlands on 24 October, Monday in Hobart. Bangladesh scored 145 runs in the first innings with a loss of 8 wickets. Nederlands could only score 135 and got all out. Taskin Ahmed for Bangladesh took 4 wickets for 25 runs.
Nederlands won the toss and chose to bowl first. Given the weather conditions, it was the right decision. Bangladesh played sensibly in the powerplay losing only one wicket with a healthy run rate. Openers Najmul Shanto scored 25 runs in 20 balls and Soumya Sarkar 14 runs in 14 balls. Afif Hossain was the highest scorer in the innings. He made 38 runs in 27 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes. Mosaddek Hossain finished the innings with 20 runs in 12 balls not out.
For Nederlands, bowlers kept Bangladesh under check. They never let the opponents settle and build a partnership. Van Meekeren and Bas de Leede took 2 wickets. Tim Pringle and Van Beek bowled economically taking one wicket each.
Nederlands had the worst start possible coming into the chase. They lost 2 wickets in the first two balls of the innings. Taskin Ahmed shattered Nederland’s dream of chasing the score. Nederlands batters were unable to build a partnership as Bangladesh kept taking wickets except for Colin Ackerman. Colin Ackerman played a dominating inning of 62 runs in 48 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes.
Van Meekeren also scored 24 runs in 14 balls at the end of the innings.
For Bangladesh, Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed was the hero of the match. He took 4 wickets for 25 runs. Hasan Mahmud took 2 wickets. Shakib Al Hasan and Soumya Sarkar took 1 wicket each.
Taskin Ahmed won the Player of the match award for his formidable bowling performance.
