Not Suryakumar Yadav Or KL Rahul, Sourav Ganguly Picks This Batter For No.4 Position In 2023 ODI World Cup

The issue of selecting India’s No. 4 batsman in the 50-over format had been a subject of debate prior to the 2019 World Cup and the same is happening before the 2023 ODI World Cup as well. Despite several experiments made to this batting position, the middle-order batting performance failed to live up to expectations of the selectors.

As the ODI World Cup 2023 is less than two months away, the Indian cricket team is once again facing uncertainty regarding the selection of the No. 4 batsman. They have gone through some bunch of players but are still hunting for the perfect candidate.

The only batter who has proved himself here is Shreyas Iyer but the player is currently at National Cricket Academy (NCA) going through rehab. If he doesn’t get fit before the much awaited 2023 ODI World Cup, the former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has got another option for the number four position.

Sourav Ganguly is not tense at all and suggested that if Shreyas is unavailable, promising left-handed batsman Tilak Varma should be India’s pick for the No. 4 position at the World Cup.

“Who said we don’t have a No. 4? We have so many (batsmen) who can bat at that spot. I think differently; my mindset is different. This is a fantastic side,” Ganguly said on the sidelines of a Denver event.

“I see Tilak Varma as an option, being a left-hander,” Ganguly said, highlighting Varma’s adaptability and fearless approach to the game.”

Tilak Varma proved himself during his debut T20I series against the West Indies earlier this month. He showed consistent performances with scores of 39, 51, 49, 7, and 27 in five innings.
