Not Hardik Pandya Or Rishabh Pant, He Was To Be Groomed As The Next Indian Captain; MSK Prasad Shocking Revelation About The Future Indian Skipper

Team India will be going through a transition phase after the T20 World Cup. Rohit Sharma most probably will not be seen doing captaincy for the team and the BCCI will look to get another captain. Currently, Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant are those names who could be designated as India’s captain in the future.

Meanwhile, the former Indian selector MSK Prasad has said that his selection committee invested a lot in Shreyas Iyer and they want to groom him as the next skipper of team India. He said that Iyer was expected to replace Virat Kohli as the next Indian captain but the injury issues made him unavailable for the selection.

While talking to Boria Majumdar, MSK Prasad said, “We had a succession plan ready for captaincy. We were looking for a player who could lead India post the MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma eras. Shreyas Iyer was groomed, and he led India A in close to ten series, winning eight. We invested in him, unlike Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja.”

He further added, “He was unfortunately injured, and Rishabh Pant did well during that time. Before that, Iyer was Delhi Capitals‘ captain, and working under the coaching of Ricky Ponting helped him. He did a good thing by joining Kolkata Knight Riders and was helped by the franchise. He looked at ease there. With young players like Iyer, you need a better support system to help them in leadership duties. I am sure Shreyas Iyer will become a good captain in two or three years.”
