R Ashwin played one of the best knocks of his cricket life against Bangladesh in the Dhaka Test where Team India won the match by 3 wickets. Looking at the continuous impressive performance from Ashwin in Test Cricket, former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has picked Ashwin as the captain’s choice in the longest format of the game.
Kaneria feels that Ashwin can be handover the captaincy of Test Cricket as he has a smart mind and he can lead India to a great height.
While speaking on his youtube Channel on December 25, Kaneria said,”Ravichandran Ashwin should be one of the candidates for India’s Test captaincy. He still has a lot of cricket left in him. He is very smart and intelligent with his batting and bowling. It seems as if he is constantly thinking when he is on the ground.”
Ashwin got 6 wickets in the fixture against Bangladesh, scored 42 important runs in just 62 balls with the help of 4 fours and one six, and took India home.
R Ashwin weaved a 71* run partnership in 105 balls with Shreyas Iyer. Seeing this partnership of Ashwin with Iyer, Kaneria talked about maturity and his game sense in high-pressure matches.
He further stated, “India was under a lot of pressure. Ravichandran Ashwin was cool and calm in that situation, playing a great knock to steady the ship for his team. He has saved India on several occasions with his batting contributions. The Indian team looked weak when they played without Anil Kumble in the past, and the same goes for Ashwin. His 42-run knock was equal to scoring a century.”
