Star Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon has predicted the finalists of the 2023 ODI World Cup. He said that the host India and Australia will face each other in the final of the event in which the visitors have a bit of the upper hand.
India has undeniably emerged as the most dominant team in the tournament up to this point, securing victories in all six matches comfortably and establishing themselves as the frontrunners to claim the championship. On the other hand, Australia has made a strong comeback in their campaign by winning four consecutive matches after facing heavy losses in the first two.
While speaking on SEN 1170 Breakfast, Lyon predicted his finalists but also expressed that the South African team shouldn’t be underestimated as strong contenders. The 35-year-old believes that if Australia makes it to the final, having a substantial score on the board will be advantageous.
Nathan Lyon said, “I honestly believe it will be an Australia v India final. India is the number one (favorite) for me (and) it’s been exciting to watch. That being said, I think South Africa is still a dangerous team with a powerful batting lineup. You just have to look at their number three in Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, and then David Miller.

He further added, “India also has the pressure of the whole nation who are expecting them to win and their fans are so passionate. In the finals, Australia has the runs on the board so hopefully they can go all the way.”
