During the pre-match press talk before the fourth Test between India and England, Mohammed Siraj was asked by a reporter about the canceled India-Pakistan match in the World Championship of Legends (WCL).
Siraj seemed surprised by the question and said he didn’t know anything about it. The reporter kept asking if India would play Pakistan in ICC events, but Siraj repeated that he didn’t know what to say.
The WCL, a private league for retired players, had planned an India-Pakistan game for June 20 at Edgbaston. But, there was public anger in India because the game was planned shortly after the Pahalgam Terror attacks.
After some Indian players withdrew, the match was canceled. The league isn’t connected to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) or the International Cricket Council (ICC). The tournament is co-owned by Ajay Devgn and Harshit Tomar.
The 2025 Asia Cup’s status is unsure. It could be the first time India and Pakistan face each other since their conflict. It’s not clear when or where the tournament will be played. India is the host, but it may be held in a neutral country.
India and Pakistan are scheduled to compete in the 2025 Women’s World Cup and 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup.
If the Asia Cup doesn’t occur, the men’s teams might not play each other until the 2026 T20 World Cup.
