Moeen Ali Approached To Return From Retirement For Ashes Series, Check His Reaction

England all-rounder Moeen Ali has been approached to reconsider his retirement from red-ball cricket after spinner Jack Leach was ruled out of the upcoming Ashes series due to a back stress fracture.

Moeen, who retired from Test cricket in 2021, has confirmed that the England management has contacted him regarding a potential comeback. This development has sparked excitement among fans and players alike, as Moeen’s skills and experience could prove valuable in the prestigious Ashes contest.

Before his retirement, Moeen Ali had an illustrious Test career, representing England in 67 matches. He contributed significantly with both bat and ball, scoring 2,914 runs and taking 195 wickets. His off-spin bowling and aggressive batting style made him a valuable asset for the team.

Interestingly, this is not the first time that Moeen has been approached to make a return to Test cricket. Last summer, England coach Brendon McCullum had discussed the possibility with the all-rounder ahead of the Pakistan tour. However, Moeen declined the offer, citing commitments to the T20 World Cup and other engagements.

While participating in the IPL, Moeen spoke to ESPNCricinfo about his recent progress and mindset. He expressed his satisfaction with returning to his rhythm and feeling like he has regained some key aspects of his game. However, he emphasized the importance of maintaining the same energy and mindset in white-ball cricket as in Test matches.

“I feel like there are things I’ve been missing over the last few years. I’ve just started to get it back again: a bit of rhythm in my action. When playing Test matches, I always felt like I was bowling well in white-ball cricket. You can kind of lose that rhythm, I guess. I think I’ve got to have that mindset of still bowling with that same energy as I would have done in Test matches,” Moeen had said to ESPNCricinfo.

Moeen’s potential return to the England Test team has also garnered support from his teammates. Fast bowler Stuart Broad spoke highly of Moeen, stating that he is a phenomenal cricketer who would fit seamlessly into the team’s philosophy. However, Stuart acknowledged that it remains uncertain whether the selectors are considering Moeen or if he would even contemplate red-ball cricket again. Nonetheless, he recognized Moeen’s exceptional talent and contribution to the sport.

“We know Moeen is a phenomenal cricketer and someone who would fit into Stokes and Baz’s philosophy beautifully,” Broad said to Sky Sports. “I don’t know if the selectors are considering him or if he would consider red-ball cricket again. But he’s a mighty fine cricketer,” he added.
