Former England captain Michael Vaughan has supported the BCCI’s decision to ban Harry Brook after he backed out of playing in the IPL this season. Brook, who had been picked by Delhi Capitals for INR 6.25 crore, is now facing a two-year ban from the T20 tournament since he withdrew right before it. He also skipped IPL 2024 due to his grandmother’s passing.
Vaughan thinks the ban is fair. You put yourself forward. The rules are clear and were announced last year. If you enter the auction and then back out without a good reason, you have to face the consequences. He isn’t injured; he just doesn’t want to play in the IPL this year. He decided to stay in the UK instead, he said on the Club Prairie Fire podcast.
Vaughan also mentioned that Brook likely wants to focus on leading the England team in white-ball formats, which fans might appreciate, but the IPL needed to enforce some rules to prevent disruption for the franchises.
Earlier this month, Brook expressed his apologies to Delhi Capitals and their fans, saying he needed to focus on preparing for upcoming England matches. It’s a crucial time for English cricket, and I need to take some time to recharge after a busy period, he stated.
The IPL is set to begin on March 22 with a match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens.
