MI Cape Town Appoints Kieron Pollard As Their New Captain, Rashid Khan Rested

Kieron Pollard is set to captain MI Cape Town in SA 20 2024, taking over from Rashid Khan as the Afghanistan star is recovering from an injury. Meanwhile, Nicholas Pooran will lead MI Emirates in ILT20 2024, as announced by Mumbai Indians on Sunday, January 07.

Nicholas Pooran showcased his leadership prowess by guiding MI New York to victory in the inaugural season of Major League Cricket. His memorable performance included a remarkable unbeaten innings of 137* (55) in the final against Seattle Orcas. As the tournament’s leading run-scorer, Pooran amassed 388 runs in eight innings at an impressive average of 64.66 and a striking strike rate of 167.24.

Nicholas Pooran is anticipated to replicate his success in the ILT20, aiming to lead MI Emirates to victory. In the inaugural edition, MI Emirates missed the final after facing a 4-wicket defeat against Gujarat Giants in Qualifier 2. The team will likely look to build on that experience under Pooran’s captaincy in the upcoming ILT20.

MI Cape Town had a challenging debut season in SA20, finishing at the bottom of the points table with only three wins out of ten games. Notably, Kieron Pollard was absent from the squad during the inaugural season, with Rashid Khan leading the team. The upcoming season will see Pollard taking charge, aiming to bring a positive turnaround to the team’s performance.
