‘May Be He Won’t Be The Same Rishabh Pant’, Sunil Gavaskar Sparkling Comment On DC Captain

Former Indian legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar Sunil Gavaskar has emphasised that the wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant should not be hurried back into game after the gap of more than a year. Gavaskar suggested that Pant should resume captaincy for Delhi Capitals only when he achieves complete fitness.

Rishabh Pant sustained in a car accident two years ago and he is reportedly in the last phase of his recovery. Anticipation surrounds his return to IPL 2024, where he’s expected to make a comeback as a batsman, adhering to the Impact Player rule during the initial stages, as he completes rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy.

While talking to Star Sports, Gavaskar said,”He certainly has the ability to think on his feet. If he gets back to full fitness, the reins of (Delhi Capitals) captaincy should be handed over to him. Let’s stay hopeful. This season is the first of him coming back to full fitness. Let’s not rush him into doing something that will be a setback. Knee plays a pivotal role in batting as well as keeping — which, of course, he may not do initially. Maybe he won’t be the usual Rishabh Pant that we are used to seeing.”

Gavaskar expressed that Rishabh Pant faces a challenging journey to regain his peak form. However, he praised the wicketkeeper-batsman for initiating training for the prestigious league.

“I’m also a big fan of him. For me the most important thing, is he should be healthy like before, so that he can come and entertain us. It will be very difficult for him and it will take some time for him to get that batting fluency. But good that he has started training,”Gavaskar added.
