Former team India’s skipper and prince of Bangal, Sourav Ganguly, talked about his decision to replace Virat Kohli with Rohit Sharma as captain.

Virat Kohli was leading India in all three formats, but after he stepped down from the captaincy, he was replaced by Rohit Sharma as the captain of the Indian team. When all these things took place, Sourav Ganguly was the chief of the BCCI.

As soon as Rohit Sharma replaced Virat Kohli as the new captain of Team India, there were speculations of a rift between the two players.

Speaking on his decision to make Rohit Sharma the captain of the Indian team, Ganguly said that he saw potential in Rohit Sharma after his impressive performance in the IPL as the captain.

In the previous edition of the One Day World Cup, India won 10 matches on trott, but they were beaten by Australia in the final under the leadership of Rohit Sharma.

Ganguly further went on to say that India were the best team of the tournament, and he was not at all surprised by the way Rohit Sharma led India throughout the tournament.

In his recent interaction, Ganguly said, “Look at the way he captained in the World Cup. Taking India to the final. I think India was the best team in the competition until they lost the final. So he is a good captain. IPL trophies. I am not surprised by the way he led. He became the captain when I was the BCCI president, and I am not surprised by the way he has led the team. I made him the Indian captain because I saw the talent in him, and I am not surprised by what he has done.”.

However, Rohit Sharma lost his captaincy in the IPL as he was replaced by Hardik Pandya, who was named the new skipper of the Mumbai Indians for the upcoming 2024 IPL season.

Hardik Pandaya was traded from the Gujarat Titans to the Mumbai Indians. After this trade, Shubhman Gill was named as the new captain for the Gujarat Titans.
